school visits

Want to deliver a presentation to a group of school students about Oxford or higher education in general?

Important: Once a school visit is planned all volunteers my notify the school's linked college and after all visits they must be logged via our database. This is to avoid duplication of work.

If you would like to deliver a presentation at your old school, a "Target School" in your local area or any other school then please attend one of our training sessions a.k.a. "Target Schools Tea".  You may be planning a presentation to a group of Year 9 students who are wondering why you might want to go to university, a group of Year 12 students specifically interested in how to apply to Oxford or any mix imbetween.

Attend one of our Target Schools Teas (please see "events" for times and venues) and we can give you a presentation, tips on public speaking, and a list of local "Target Schools".  You then notify the relevant college of your planned visit*, deliver a presentation, using our resources as you like, and record it with our database so we have a record of which schools have received a visit; recording every separate visit only takes a minute and really does help us and the University.  There isn't much else to it - it is designed to be a low time commitment.

We encourage you to draw on your own experiences when talking to pupils, but we will also arm you with the facts and figures to enable you to give correct advice on accommodation, finances, applications, and other areas confusing to those not at Oxford. You can download our training presentation from our resources page which has more information.

Please note that volunteers are expected to organise school visits themselves, normally by going back to their old school and "Target Schools" in their local area. However sometimes schools contact us directly to ask for volunteers who live local to them.

In summary:
1. Attend a Target Schools Tea
2. Organise a visit to one of your local target schools
3. Notify linked college that your visit will take place
4. Deliver presentation(s)
5. Record visits on our database
6. Repeat
or get involved with other access related activities that are publicised via our mailinglist.  It is that simple.
